Classical Genetics
(Chapters 12-15)

Classical Genetics deals with the basic laws of inheritance first published by Gregor Mendel in the 1865 and variations to those laws that were discovered in the first half of the 20th century through work done principally on model organisms like the fruit fly, Drosophila melanogaster. This unit also covers the relationship between meiosis and genetics which lead to the chromosomal theory of inheritance and the ramifications for a better understanding of human genetic diseases.
