AP Biology is a full year course which covers material equivalent
to a first year college biology class. The book used, Biology,
by Campbell, Reeece, and Mitchell is currently the most popular
college level biology text in the country. It is used at schools
such as Stanford and Cal.
In order to succeed in AP Biology you must be able to read, synthesize,
and memorize a large amount of information which is delivered
at a fairly rapid pace. The course covers nearly all 55 chapters
in the book; on average about a chapter and a half are covered
per week.
A final exam which covers the entire year is given in early
May about a week before the AP Biology exam. Following the exam
a
unit on the human brain is presented without any exams. The brain
unit grade is based on a final
project which is given as an oral presentation.
