Control of Eukaryotic Gene Expression Can Happen at Many Points
- DNA unpacking
- Transcription
- RNA processing
- Transport to the cytoplasm
- Translation and mRNA degradation
- Post-translational modification of proteins
- Degradation of proteins
Opening the Chromatin Packing
Chromatin is the collection of DNA and proteins that makes a chromosome.
- When it is tightly packed, it is called heterochromatin, and cannot be transcribed.
- When it opens up, it is called euchromatin, and can be transcribed.
