UC Berkeley professor Walter Alvarez gave a lecture/Interview at Cubberley Community Theater for the Commonwealth Club in Palo Alto. He talked about his new book, "A Most Improbable Journey: A Big History of our Planet and Ourselves," which discusses history from the Big Bang until today. His lecture/interview was really interesting, especially how he discussed the role of contingencies in history- the idea that things could have been very different. Of course, he did talk a bit about his biggest discovery- the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs. It was exciting to hear the story of this amazing discovery from the scientist responsible for making the discovery. We all enjoyed spending time with Dr. Alvarez who is a great story teller and a wonderful presenter.
