AP Biology Gang With Jane Goodall

Mayer Theater
Santa Clara University
October 8, 2007

World famous biologist Jane Goodall gave a lecture in the Mayer Theater at Santa Clara University. She began her lecture with a chimpanzee vocal greeting which pleased everyone! We learned about her early childhood curiosity about animals and her desire to meet and work for Louis Leakey the world famous paleoanthropologist. She told amazing stories about her decades long work studying chimpanzee behavior at the Gombe National Park in Tanzania. Her earliest breakthrough was discovery of tool use in non-human primates- chimps using a long blade of grass to fish termites out of a termite mound. She concluded her talk with an appeal to save the planet from destruction. She is hopeful that humankind will find a way to do this.
