Lynn Margulis lectured on her radical new theory of evolution, symbiogenesis, which is described in her book, "Acquring Genomes," (Mr. Hammack is holding a copy). Dr. Margulis is best known for her theory of serial endosymbiosis in which mitochondria and chloroplasts are believed to have been prokaryotic symbionts with early eukaryotic cells that eventually evolved to become eukaryotic organelles. This theory, once considered fringe and radical, is now part of scientific orthodoxy.
